About

Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.

Dirtbag Dharma is a trail journal, a spiritual sketchbook, and a love letter to the wild places — both outside and within.

My partner Amy and I live out of our 2011 Kia Sorento. We sold most of our stuff, packed up our hiking boots and yoga mats, and chose a life of simplicity, dirt, and dharma. Most days you'll find us somewhere between a trailhead and a river, stretching in the sun, cooking from the back of the car, or crawling into our sleeping bags with sore legs and happy hearts.

This blog is a space to share our stories from the road: muddy hikes, breathwork in the bush, unshowered days, wild weather, dehydrated meals, and little moments of unexpected beauty. But it’s also about something deeper.

Dirtbag Dharma is where spiritual practice meets the dirt.
Where yoga doesn’t happen in a studio but on a cliff edge.
Where we learn to love our bodies again by walking with them, feeding them, forgiving them.

Where presence is not a posture — it’s a way of being.

We write about:

  • Hiking trails across Australia (and beyond)

  • Car camping hacks and gear reviews (low-budget, high-vibe)

  • Yoga, meditation, and intuitive movement in nature

  • Body image healing and self-love on the trail

  • The dance between stillness and movement, discipline and freedom

  • All the funny, weird, beautiful stuff that happens when you give yourself to a life less ordinary

We believe in muddy feet, barefoot sun salutations, bush showers, trail tears, roadside chai, long exhales, and listening closely to the land.

Whether you’re a hiker, a yogi, a seeker, or just someone craving a little more freedom — welcome. We’re not polished or perfect here. We’re dusty, curious, scrappy, and grateful.

And we’re glad to walk this path with you.

In dirt and devotion,
Shanelle (& Amy)
